Camp Badger for Teachers
Announcing "Camp Badger for Teachers," a New Professional Development Opportunity at UW-Madison for Middle School Teachers to Bring Engineering into Their Instruction
The UWMadison School of Education in partnership with the College of Engineering, is offering a new professional development opportunity for Wisconsin middle school teachers (grades 58), July 812, 2013. Camp Badger for Teachers offers teachers the opportunity to learn how to best implement engineering activities and practices in their classrooms, as found in the Next Generation Science Standards.
Camp Badger for Teachers is an extension of Camp Badger Exploring Engineering, a weeklong, UW-Madison-sponsored summer camp for students entering 8th grade. Since 1998, Camp Badger has created positive connections to engineering for middle school students through an adventure learning experience, exposing these students to a myriad of engineering disciplines and activities. An important part of the Camp Badger for Teachers experience is observing Camp Badger students as they discover engineering and reflecting on how those experiences could translate into learning activities in their classrooms.
The mission of Camp Badger for Teachers is to:
- Provide educators the opportunity to develop a better understanding of engineering problem solving and careers
- Support teachers in integrating engineering design principles into mathematics and science instruction, as stated in the NGSS
Disciplinary or cross-disciplinary teams of science, mathematics, and technology education teachers are encouraged to apply.
Camp Badger for Teachers is supported by a grant from the Ira and Ineva Reilly Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Endowment. The registration fee to attend will be fully covered this year by the University of WisconsinMadison. Please note that housing expenses will be the responsibility of the participant.
